My daughter called her father and asked if he could bring some snacks for her and her friends.
Now, her dad and I aren’t together anymore.
And honestly?
Life has been hitting him hard lately.
He lost his job.
His car broke down.
Bills were piling up.
Everything that could go wrong seemed to be going wrong.
So when I heard him tell her,
“Baby, Daddy got you, okay?”
I just sat there wondering how in the world he was going to make that happen.
But my daughter didn’t hesitate for a second.
She smiled, spun around the living room, and proudly announced to all her little friends:
“My daddy’s bringing snacks!”
The confidence in her voice stopped me cold.

that little girl never doubted her father would show up.
A few months earlier, I had offered to help him financially.
He refused immediately.

“I could never take money from a woman. Especially the mother of my child. My job is to provide for my daughter no matter what. I’ll figure it out.”
A few hours later, there was a knock at the door.
I opened it.
And there he was.
Stepping off a city bus with grocery bags hanging from both arms.
Not just snacks.
Juice boxes.
Fruit.
Chips.
Cookies.
Sandwich supplies.
Enough food for every child in the house.
My daughter screamed, ran straight into his arms, and hugged him like he had just returned from war.
He smiled the entire evening.
Never complained.
Never mentioned how tired he looked.
Never explained where the money came from.
After the girls went to sleep, he quietly grabbed his jacket and headed for the door.
That’s when I noticed something.
Something that had been on his wrist every single day since I met him.
Something I knew meant the world to him.
